About the Royal Sonesta
The Royal Sonesta Kauai is located on the east coast of the island and is only 2 miles from the main airport. The beachfront resort has beautiful ocean views and is close to many popular attractions. Rooms have private lanais with views of the ocean or lush gardens.
The Royal Sonesta is adjacent to Kalapaki Beach known for calm water that is perfect for swimming and paddleboarding.
Water conditions can vary and there are times when the ocean can become unsafe, even in normally calm areas. It is important to always check the local conditions before heading out.
For those that like to shop, the nearby Anchor Cover and Harbor Mall offer small boutique and souvenir shops, plus casual dining. The Kukui Grove Shopping Center, just a short drive away, features larger retail stores and local markets.
In addition, many outdoor activities are available nearby. For those that like to golf, The Ocean Course at Hokuala offers a world-class experience with oceanfront fairways. Kayaking on the Huleia River provides a peaceful way to explore Kauai’s lush landscape. Helicopter tours offer breathtaking views of waterfalls, mountains, and the Na Pali Coast. A snorkeling and waterfall boat tour is also a great way to see the island from another perspective.
Lihue Weather
Lihue and the eastern portion of Kauai consistently receives rain throughout the entire year. The late fall and winter months see the most but there is ample rain in the spring and summer to keep everything lush and green. Afternoon rains are common and provide a nice cooling off from the bright sunshine.
High temperatures range from the mid 70s to the mid 80s and lows in the 60s and 70s.
Tropical storms and hurricanes can influence the weather during the summer months from June to October. While a direct hit is rare, they do happen. Hurricane Iniki, in September of 1992, was the last direct hit on Kauai. Kauai sits at the western end of the Hawaiian chain of islands and is in open water with no protection.
