About the Mauna Kea Resort
Located along the sunny Kohala Coast of Hawaii’s Big Island, Mauna Kea Resort is a beautiful oceanfront destination known for its white-sand beaches, luxury accommodations and classic Hawaiian atmosphere. The resort is home to the historic Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, which opened in 1965 and overlooks picturesque Kauna‘oa Bay, commonly known as Mauna Kea Beach.
Guests at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel have access to an impressive collection of amenities. The resort features swimming pools, a modern fitness center, the Spa at Mauna Kea, tennis facilities and the championship Mauna Kea Golf Course. The property also offers cultural activities, shopping and a seasonal Keiki Club for younger guests. Dining is another highlight of the resort. Manta serves breakfast and dinner overlooking Kauna‘oa Bay, with an emphasis on fresh island and ocean-inspired cuisine. Copper Bar offers casual meals, appetizers and handcrafted cocktails accompanied by panoramic ocean views. At the beach, Hau Tree provides relaxed open-air dining, serving favorites such as burgers, salads and fish tacos during the day before transitioning to Hau Tree Cantina and its regional Mexican-inspired menu in the evening. Guests can also experience the traditional Mauna Kea Lū‘au.
The centerpiece of a visit is beautiful Kauna‘oa Bay. Its crescent-shaped beach, clear blue water and generally protected setting make it an excellent place for swimming, snorkeling and relaxing on the sand. Resort guests can obtain complimentary snorkeling equipment, stand-up paddleboards, ocean kayaks, fins and body boards from the Beach Club. Guided outrigger canoe paddles are also offered when ocean conditions permit.

Waikui Weather
Waikui has a pleasant, tropical climate with abundant rainfall throughout the year that keeps everything lush and green.
Winter and spring see the most rain as storms move from west to east. Air is pushed up the mountain slopes squeezing out moisture that falls on the western shoreline of the Big Island that includes Kona. Summer and fall often experience daily afternoon showers.
Temperatures range from the low 80s to the upper 80s. Rarely does it bet above 90 degrees. Lows are in the 60s and 70s.
The Big Island of Hawaii is the most susceptible to tropical storms and hurricanes as compared to the other Hawaii islands. Storms usually approach from the southwest and the island is the first in the chain to experience the full impact of the wind and rain. Unlike Maui, which is protected from storms by other islands, the Big Island has nothing around to provide protection. Since Waikui is on the western side of the Big Island, the mountain range to the east provides some protection, but not much.
