Also keep in mind, that ocean conditions can change quickly and what is calm one minute, can become dangerous the next.
Kihei Weather
Kihei is located on the drier, western side of Maui and has some of the best weather in Hawaii. The western side of the island see less rain than the central and northern sides because the trade winds drive clouds up the mountain slopes and squeeze out most of the moisture.
High temperatures are pleasant throughout the year. Highs range from the 70s and 80s to lows in the 60s and 70s. Rarely does it ever get above 90 or below 60 degrees.
Kihei can be very windy at times as wind whips through the valley between the two mountains and out to sea. On most days, the winds blow from land to sea and this results in smaller wind waves and calmer beach conditions.
The most rain occurs between December and April. During the summer and fall, light afternoon showers are common but don’t last long and are just enough to provide a nice cool down.
Tropical storms and hurricanes can impact the area but rarely is there a direct hit due to the protective action of the Big Island of Hawaii located southwest of Maui.
