Wailea Weather
Wailea has some of the best weather throughout the year than anywhere else in the world. The nearby Haleakala volcano squeezes out the majority of the clouds and rain and lets just enough through to keep the area lush and green. It is very common for there to be light rain each afternoon that is just enough to cool off on a warm day.
Temperatures are mild and rarely hot or cold. Highs range from the 70s to the upper 80s and rarely gets below 60 degrees at night.
Most heavier rain occurs between December and April with the exception of tropical storms and hurricanes that can influence the weather in the summer and fall. Due to the close proximity and protective action of the Big Island of Hawaii, direct storm hits rarely occur in Maui.
Trade winds blow from land to sea minimizing wind waves and keeps the beach areas calmer than the north side of the island. In addition, the surrounding islands help shield Maui from larger swells. However, water conditions can vary and there are times when the ocean can become unsafe, even in normally calm areas. It is important to always check the local conditions before heading out.
