About Kaanapali Beach
Kaanapali Beach is located on the northwestern shore of Maui Hawaii. This area is known for abundant sunshine, less rain and is considered the calmer side of the island when is comes to surf and wind. For these reasons, Kaanapali is very popular as a family vacation destination.
Kaanapali is famous for stunning high end resorts, great restaurants, beautiful beaches and gorgeous sunsets. In addition, this area also has some of the best snorkeling on the island due to the clear water and protective reef just offshore.
Nearby Blackrock, adjacent to the Sheraton Resort and Spa, has great snorkeling and diving. The Kaanapali Coastal Trail is nearby and takes you along a rocky and rugged shoreline overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There are also two championship golf courses available to the public, one in Kaanapali and one close by in Kapalua.
Kaanapali Weather
Kaanapali is located on the drier, western side of the island. This area sees more sun than other areas on Maui because the nearby mountains and hills squeeze out the moisture and blocks most of the clouds.
The trade winds typically blow from land to sea. As a result, the waters are generally protected and calm.
Temperatures are mild. In the winter the highs range from the 70s to low 80s. Summer sees the mid and upper 80s. Rarely does it ever get above 90 degrees. Conversely, low temperatures rarely get below 60.
In the summer and fall months, Kaanapali’s weather can be affected by nearby tropical storms and hurricanes. Rarely is there a direct storm hit due to the proximity of the Big Island of Hawaii that provides protection.
Water conditions can vary and there are times when the ocean can become unsafe, even in normally calm areas. It is important to always check the local conditions before heading out.
