Wailea Weather
Wailea, Maui has some of the best weather in the world. Located on the southwestern coast of the island, this area is protected from daily rains by the Haleakala volcano. Wailea, in an average year, get less than 20 inches of rain. In contrast, the town of Hana, located on the other side of Haleakala, about 25 miles away as the crow flies, gets over 300 inches of rain per year.
Temperatures are mild with lows in the 60s to highs in the upper 80s. Rarely does it ever get over 90 degrees. While it rains throughout the year, most of the rainfall comes between December and April when strong Pacific storms pass through.
Ocean water temperatures vary from the low 70s in the winter to the low 80s in the summer.
Tropical storms and hurricanes often pass close by in the summer and fall months but rarely cause damage due to protection from the Big Island of Hawaii that acts like a shield.
