About Two Harbors

Two Harbors is a peaceful village located on the calmer, western side of Catalina Island. Surrounded by stunning blue waters, it offers a quiet escape from busy city life. Contrary to Avalon, this small community provides a more relaxed and natural setting.

Historically, Two Harbors has been used for many purposes. Native American tribes once lived in the area, relying on fishing and trade. Later, the harbor became a hub for mining, ranching, and even military operations during World War II. Today, it serves as a destination for boaters, campers, and outdoor lovers.

The village is known for its beautiful landscapes and outdoor activities. Hiking trails lead to beautiful coastal views, while snorkeling spots reveal colorful marine life. Kayaking and paddleboarding are also popular, allowing visitors to explore hidden coves.

The area is a favorite stop for boaters. A well-maintained marina provides moorings and facilities. Crystal-clear waters and calm conditions make it an excellent location for diving and fishing. Wildlife such as sea lions, bald eagles, and dolphins can often be spotted.

For those looking to stay overnight, accommodations range from rustic camping to cozy lodges. The historic Banning House Lodge offers a charming retreat with scenic views. A general store and restaurant provide essential supplies and delicious meals.

Catalina Weather

Catalina and most of Southern California’s beach communities have some of the best weather in the world.  Temperatures remain mild throughout the winter and summer.

Most rain falls between December and April.  May and June are often very cloudy and cool as the marine layer covers the beach communities.  This is caused by the deserts warming up and pulling the clouds and fog over the coast.  There can be weeks without seeing any sun at all during this time of the year.  Often these two months are referred to as “May gray” and “June gloom”.

Summertime high temperatures are generally in the 60s and 70s with night time lows in the 60s.  Winter cools off with highs in the low 60s and lows in the 50s during the night.  Rarely does the temperature exceed 90 degrees or fall into the 30s at night.

Occasionally a weather phenomena called a “Santa Ana” will drive temperatures near 100 degrees and are often accompanied by very high, near hurricane force, winds.

This area is not prone to high winds except when a large, strong storm moves through or a Santa Ana weather event happens.
